Retail Store Manager

 Responsibilities:

Supervises staff and serves customers by providing merchandise.

Duties:

Completes store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results. 

  • The Manager of Retail Sales provides customer service by greeting and assisting customers and responding to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Directs and supervises employees engaged in sales, inventory-taking, reconciling cash receipts or in performing services for customers.
  • Monitors sales activities to ensure customers receive satisfactory service and quality goods.
  • Assigns employees to specific duties.
  • Enforces safety, health, and security rules.
  • Examines merchandise to ensure that it is correctly priced and displayed and that it functions as advertised.
  • Maintains store staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Fires as needed.
  • Ensures availability of merchandise and services assuring inventory is maintained at store site.
  • Markets merchandise by studying advertising, sales promotion, and display plans with Supervisors .
  • Secures merchandise by implementing security systems and measures.
  • Protects employees and customers by providing a safe and clean store environment.
  • Maintains the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements.
  • Maintains operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Additional Skill sets that may be required:

The Manager of Retail Sales needs knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. The Manager of Retail Sales needs knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems. The Manager of Retail Sales needs knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. The Manager of Retail Sales needs knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. The Manager of Retail Sales needs knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and negotiation, and personnel information systems.

Retail Salesperson

Responsibilities:

Serves customers by helping them select products.

 Duties:

  • Welcomes customers by greeting them and offering assistance.
  • Directs customers by suggesting items.
  • Advises customers by providing information on products, including all stocked partner merchandise.
  • Describes merchandise and explains use, operation, and care of merchandise to customers.
  • Places special orders for out of stock items and refers to and uses online site.
  • Helps customer make selections by building customer confidence: offering suggestions and opinions.
  • Maintains knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
  • Documents sales by creating or updating customer profile records.
  • Exchanges merchandise for customers and accept returns.
  • Bags or packages purchases and wraps gifts.
  • Performs opening and closing duties: Inventory stock and requisition Cleans shelves, counters, and tables.
  • Processes payments by totaling purchases, processing cash, and credit cards. Does not accept checks of any kind.
  • Keeps clientele informed by notifying them of preferred customer sales and future merchandise of potential interest. Conducts regular correspondence with client list to encourage return purchases and customer loyalty.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Watches for and recognizes security risks and thefts, and knows how to prevent or handle these situations

Retail Salesperson Skills and Qualifications:

Good Listening, Customer Service, Meeting Sales Goals, Selling to Customer Needs, Product Knowledge, People Skills, Energy Level, Dependability, General Math Skills, Verbal Communication, Job Knowledge. Previous retail experience preferred but not required.
